BattleKart Gateshead

BattleKart Gateshead occupies Unit 4 Riverside Metro on Delta Bank Road (NE11 9DJ), opposite the Metrocentre and ten minutes from central Newcastle in Tyne and Wear. The indoor electric karting venue runs augmented reality projected from ceiling-mounted projectors, with no VR headsets required, the signature format of the European BattleKart chain.

Electric karts run on a real track with game modes and circuits projected directly onto the floor, creating interactive virtual environments. Six game modes are available: BattleRace (combat racing with virtual weapons), BattleSnake (fruit collection), BattleColor (rhythm-based tile painting), BattleFoot (virtual football), BattleVirus (cooperative defence), and BattlePool (team billiards). There is no minimum age, but drivers must stand at least 1.45 m (4ft 9″) tall and weigh no more than 120 kg. Sessions last around 15 minutes, including 2:30 for boarding and disembarking. Groups of 2-12 players run together, with full 12-kart private hire available. The anti-collision safety system removes the need for helmets. The venue offers 76 free parking spaces, food and drink service (pizzas, nachos, non-alcoholic cocktails), and private party rooms. Term-time hours: Mon-Tue closed, Wed-Thu 16:00-21:00, Fri-Sun 10:00-21:00.

Gateshead twins with Newcastle on the Tyne. Hadrian's Wall UNESCO 1987 (73 miles Cumbria to Tyne, built from 122 CE, the northern frontier of Roman Britannia) reaches 5 km north (Heddon-on-the-Wall is the first visible stretch). Newcastle Quayside takes in Tyne Bridge 1928, Sage Gateshead by Norman Foster 2004, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (a former grain silo rebuilt in 2002), and Millennium Bridge for pedestrians 2001. The Angel of the North (Antony Gormley 1998, a 20 m corten steel statue) stands 5 km south. Beamish Open Air Museum (Britain 1820s-1940s as a living village) lies 15 km south. Durham Cathedral and Castle UNESCO 1986 (Norman, with the tomb of Saint Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede) reach 25 km south. Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne Holy Island (the 635 monastery of Saint Aidan) line the coast 60 km north.
