Gokartcentralen Kungälv

In Kungälv, north of Gothenburg, Gokartcentralen offers a karting track driven indoors or outdoors depending on the season, with fully electric karts. Set on Arntorpsgatan, the venue also tends to its green footprint with solar panels on the roof, and rounds out the offer with a racing simulator to train or pass the time between sessions. The karts reach around sixty kilometres an hour, with the crisp acceleration of the electric motor.

Karting stays open to everyone, no licence or experience needed: a briefing, a helmet, and off you go chasing your best lap. Access is wide: from ninety centimetres in a two-seater alongside an adult, from a hundred and twenty-five centimetres for juniors and a hundred and forty for the standard karts. People come as a drop-in for a few minutes or for a group race, and happily return to shave off a few tenths. It is best to check the hours before coming.

Kungälv is an old town north of Gothenburg, overlooked by the imposing Bohus fortress, set on a rock where two arms of the Göta river meet. Nearby, the seaside resort of Marstrand, on its island reached by ferry, charms with its wooden houses and its Carlsten fort, and the Bohuslän coast unfolds its smooth rocks and fishing villages. The region is reached in about twenty minutes from Gothenburg by motorway, making it an easy outing north of the city.
