Kartbahn MSC Ipf Bopfingen
About
Kartbahn MSC Ipf Bopfingen, the Breitwangbahn, is the permanent kart track of the Motorsportclub IPF Bopfingen e.V. im ADAC, about 2 km south-west of Bopfingen, towards the airfield. The site has a long motorsport history: a former speedway and grasstrack circuit opened by the club in 1968, it was converted into a facility dedicated to karting and slalom after speedway racing stopped in 1983.
Kart training takes place on Friday 1pm to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 6pm, while a road safety practice area opens on Sunday and public holidays 10am to 5pm. The club organises major rounds of the ADAC calendar, including the national final of the Slalom-Youngster-Cup and the German junior slalom championship, and addresses affiliated drivers, Youngster slalom participants and young people in training.
Bopfingen lies on the Härtsfeld, in the Ostalbkreis, 50 km east of Stuttgart, 30 km south-west of Nördlingen and 50 km north of Aalen. The town is dominated by the Ipf, a 668 m basalt cone whose plateau held one of the largest Celtic oppida in southern Germany, ringed by ramparts still visible. 25 km to the north-east opens the Nördlinger Ries, a 25 km-wide impact crater formed 15 million years ago, where the Apollo 14 astronauts trained in geology in 1970. Nördlingen and its circular old town enclosed in its ramparts, Aalen and its UNESCO-listed Roman Limes museum, and the Swabian Jura round out the surroundings.
