Lentola Karting Park

In Kangasala, near Tampere, the Lentola Karting Park is an outdoor asphalt karting track run by the Pirkanmaan Karting club. Open from April to October, it takes up to thirty-four karts on track and alternates its slots: some weekday evenings are reserved for quiet vehicles, that is electric karts, to limit noise. It is a club track, run by enthusiasts, rather than a commercial leisure centre.

Access is through a coded gate system, in the self-reliant style of Finnish associations. The hours cover much of the day from Tuesday to Sunday, with slots set aside for training and others more open. The track closes from November to March, through the Nordic winter. It is a good ground to train regularly or to try outdoor karting in the Tampere area.

Kangasala is known for its esker landscapes, those long glacial ridges covered in forest that rise above a string of lakes. The region, Pirkanmaa, offers a natural setting typical of inland Finland, between water and woods. Tampere, a short distance away, easily rounds off the outing for anyone wanting to extend the day in town after their time on track.
