Mika Salo Circuit
About
In Härmä, in western Finland, the Mika Salo Circuit is one of the country's major outdoor karting tracks. About twelve hundred metres long, it bears the name of Finnish Formula 1 driver Mika Salo and has hosted European and World karting championships. The layout runs along a river and offers an open setting, with a timing system that shows lap times live on an F1-style display board.
The track is part of the PowerPark amusement park, which makes it a natural stop for families and for drivers after a real circuit alike. You drive petrol karts, and in summer the site holds open Grand Prix events for all levels, races where everyone can measure up against the clock. It is a performance-minded track, yet open without a licence or experience, with a briefing and gear on site.
Härmä lies in South Ostrobothnia, a region of farmland plains crossed by rivers. The presence of PowerPark, one of Finland's biggest leisure parks, makes the place a holiday destination in its own right, with rides, lodging and activities for the whole family. The karting track is part of this whole and lets you combine thrills with a day at the park, in a quiet corner of the country. The area is easily reached from Vaasa or Seinäjoki, and many Finnish drivers have cut their teeth here on an international-standard layout. Between a competition round and a day of rides, it is a place where a passion for motorsport passes from one generation to the next.
