Poggio Karting Club

At the foot of Vesuvius, in Poggiomarino in the province of Naples in Campania, the Poggio Karting Club runs an outdoor track on the fertile Vesuvian plain. The site sits in a rural setting typical of the Vesuvian area: fertile volcanic soil, citrus groves, olive groves, the first Vesuvian heights and a striking view over Vesuvius (1,281 m, an active volcano). It is used by Naples locals for outings with friends and by Pompeii-Amalfi Coast holiday-makers looking for a motorsport break between UNESCO archaeology and sea.

Trackside, the outdoor format offers a layout suited to a range of skill levels, in the unique setting of the Vesuvian area. Several engine sizes are available, from beginner karts for kids to punchier versions for regulars used to timed sessions. Conditions follow the Campanian Mediterranean climate: a fast, dry track most of the year, under the strong sun of the Mezzogiorno. The site welcomes family taster sessions, kids' birthday parties, stag and hen groups and corporate events from the Naples area.

Poggiomarino is twenty-five minutes from Pompeii, thirty minutes from Naples and forty-five minutes from Sorrento. The region offers plenty more to see: the archaeological site of Pompeii (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the capital of Roman archaeology), Herculaneum UNESCO (smaller but better preserved), the Vesuvius National Park and excursions to the crater, the historic centre of Naples UNESCO (Spaccanapoli, Cappella Sansevero with Sanmartino's Veiled Christ, Duomo of San Gennaro, MANN National Archaeological Museum), the Amalfi Coast UNESCO (Amalfi, Positano, Ravello), Sorrento and the island of Capri, or a side trip to Paestum's Greek temples UNESCO. Karting at Poggiomarino is an option for Pompeii-Vesuvius travellers.
