SHW Kartclub Hoeksche Waard

In Strijen, on the rural island of the Hoeksche Waard south of Rotterdam, SHW Kartclub Hoeksche Waard keeps an outdoor track of about six hundred and fifty metres. It is first of all a club: there is no kart hire on site, and drivers come with their own equipment. The track therefore works differently from a usual leisure centre, and is aimed above all at those who already own a kart.

Access, however, is not reserved for members alone. On top of yearly membership, the club offers open-driving days, on Saturdays and Sundays, available by the day with a pass. Depending on the calendar, the programme includes free driving, club races, events for recreational drivers and mini-courses through the winter. It is a fine setting for regular practice when you run your own kart, in a friendly club atmosphere.

The Hoeksche Waard is an island of polders reclaimed from the arms of the Meuse and the delta, with a flat, open landscape of dykes, fields and reed beds where many birds stop over. Strijen is one of its villages, away from the bustle of nearby big cities such as Dordrecht and Rotterdam. SHW Kartclub keeps a genuine culture of grassroots karting alive here, carried by volunteers, and remains a reference for amateur drivers in the region looking for a track to put in laps with their own kart.
