BattleKart Bochum

BattleKart Bochum runs an electric indoor karting track at Isenbrockstraße 15 (44867), in the south of the city and right in the middle of the Ruhr area. Created in Belgium, the BattleKart concept brings together karting and video gaming: single-seater electric karts lap a track whose floor and walls are lit up by projectors, drawing virtual circuits and shifting game settings across the surface.

Driving happens in fifteen-minute sessions, in groups of two to twelve people. There is no minimum age; what counts is the minimum height of 1.45 m, so children and adults can race together. Depending on the day and group size, the quarter of an hour costs between 16 and 22 euros per person, with group rates from ten participants and 48 hours' notice. The track opens Tuesday to Thursday from 2pm to 9pm, Friday likewise with an extension on reservation, Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm; it closes on Mondays, except on public holidays by arrangement. Bochum lies at the centre of the Ruhr area, 35 km east of Düsseldorf and 60 km north of Cologne, in the largest industrial region in Europe. The city is home to the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum, the largest mining museum in the world, the well-regarded Schauspielhaus theatre and the Jahrhunderthalle, a former steelworks turned concert hall. The Zeche Zollverein, a UNESCO-listed colliery and emblem of the area's industrial reinvention, stands 20 km west in Essen. Dortmund and the BVB stadium are 20 km east, Düsseldorf and its Königsallee shopping avenue 35 km west. Cologne Cathedral, one of the tallest in the world at 157 m, is 60 km away.
