Circuito KLM La Maddalena

In the heart of the Marsica, in Magliano dei Marsi in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, the Circuito KLM La Maddalena runs a 1,000-metre outdoor track at the foot of Mount Velino, a short drive from the Abruzzo National Park. The site sits in a mountain setting typical of the Marsica plateau: a high-altitude intermontane plain, meadows, beech woods and the first upper Apennine heights. It is one of the most technical karting layouts in Abruzzo, a favourite with experienced drivers from central Italy.

The outdoor track suits adult and experienced drivers, in the high-altitude mountain setting of the Marsica (the site is sport-oriented and aimed at adult drivers). Several engine sizes are available, with higher-powered karts for regulars used to timed sessions. Conditions follow the high-altitude Apennine continental climate: drier and faster in summer (cool in the evening), more demanding on rainy autumn days and cold winter ones (sometimes snowy). The site hosts enthusiast sessions, motorsport-focused stag and hen groups, high-end corporate events and regional championships.

Magliano dei Marsi is thirty minutes from L'Aquila, an hour and a half from Rome and thirty minutes from Avezzano. The region offers plenty more to see: the historic centre of L'Aquila and the Basilica of San Bernardino, the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise (with bears, wolves and Abruzzo chamois), Avezzano and the Cunicoli di Claudio (a vast Roman drainage system for the former Lake Fucino), Tagliacozzo (one of the Borghi più Belli d'Italia), or a side trip to Sulmona and its famous confetti almonds.
