Daytona Circuit Akaa
About
In Akaa, between Tampere and Hämeenlinna, the Daytona Circuit is an asphalt track of about a thousand metres built in a former gravel pit. Its width, ranging from eight to sixteen metres, and a gradient of up to eight metres make it both fast-flowing and technical, alternating quick sections with tighter sequences. The circuit is hired out to clubs and private users and hosts several activities: karting and crosscart, but also cycling and roller-skiing out of season.
For karting, you come to lap against the clock on a surface built for speed, with a timing system that lets you compare your runs. The track is open on weekdays and at weekends through the warmer months, and offers passes for regular drivers, including options for micro karts and juniors under fifteen. On site, a refreshment corner serves coffee, pastries and grilled food, enough for a break between stints.
Akaa lies in the Pirkanmaa lake district, a short distance from Toijala and Valkeakoski. Tampere, a former industrial city turned cultural hub, is about thirty minutes away and is worth the trip for its museums and waterfront. The surrounding countryside, dotted with lakes and forests, makes a pleasant setting to round off the day once the sessions on track are over.
