Tempodrom

In Winterthur, in the canton of Zurich, the Tempodrom lays out a covered layout of four hundred metres extended by about a hundred metres outdoors, that is fifteen corners spread over three levels. The track runs twenty-four Swiss E-Kart electric karts by Tomkart, quiet and emission-free. The multi-storey layout, with its climbs and descents, adds relief to the driving and makes a change from the usual flat tracks.

Children are welcomed from one metre thirty, with rates suited up to thirteen years, and adults from fourteen, for eight-minute sessions. The track opens much of the week, until late on Friday and Saturday, and offers a bistro with a terrace, games and something to pass the time between races. It is an address built for families and groups, sheltered in all weather.

Winterthur is a city of art and industry north of Zurich, renowned for its museums, including the Oskar Reinhart collection, and for the Technorama, the great science museum of Switzerland. The Zurich metropolis is a few minutes away by train. The Tempodrom adds a dose of modern electric driving there, welcome for an active indoor outing.

The layout over three levels, with its bridges and changes of height, breaks from the beaten track and makes every lap different. The bistro and the waiting games make the place a friendly outing, from a birthday treat to a company evening. In Winterthur, between its museums, the Technorama and the closeness of Zurich by train, the Tempodrom fits easily into a day in town in all weather.
