Despite its name, the Tor Kartingowy Drift in Grudziądz is a regular karting track, not a sliding arena. The covered layout measures 150 metres by five metres wide, on a concrete surface, in a 1200 m² hall. Driving is on combustion karts fitted with Honda engines, GX160 and GX200 for adults and a GX120 BabyKart model for the youngest. The compact format puts the accent on handling and tight sequences.
The track is floodlit and fitted with an electronic timing system that shows lap times to spice up the session. It is a handy spot in town, open much of the week, that suits beginners coming to try it out as much as regulars chasing tenths. You come with family or friends, sheltered from the weather all year, for a few no-fuss laps.
Grudziądz, on the Vistula, is worth a look for its row of Gothic granaries lined up along the river, one of the most recognisable views in the region. The old town, the walls and the riverside walks make a pleasant stop. Toruń, the birthplace of Copernicus with a UNESCO-listed Gothic centre, is about half an hour away by road to round off the day. The 19th-century citadel that overlooks the town and the nearness of Bydgoszcz, about an hour away, widen the programme for a day in the region.
